While there are no plot details to report quite yet, the cast has been disclosed. THR reports that the follow-up to the 2020 animated film Battle of the Realms would be released late this summer. After an overall enthusiastic fan response, writer Jeremy Adams expressed his interest in returning for a sequel. Meanwhile, Liu Kang (Jordan Rodrigues), Johnny Cage (Joel McHale), and Sonya Blade (Jennifer Carpenter) discover their destiny to participate in the Mortal Kombat tournament to save Earthrealm from Outworld. The premise follows Scorpion (Patrick Seitz) as he seeks revenge on those who murdered his family and clan after being resurrected by Quan Chi (Darin De Paul). In 2020, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge was released as a direct-to-video animated film. In 1995, the story was adapted as a live-action film, followed by a sequel, a couple of animated films, and an R-rated reboot released earlier this year in theaters and on HBO Max. The original video game launched in 1992 and has sold more than 49 million copies throughout several games and expansions.
